Mapping Cultural Identity

From April to September 2024, I developed an immersive residency within the Bétulas community, focusing on the power of dialogue and shared curiosity. Supported by the Municipality of Famalicão, this project translated local narratives into an artistic notebook (zine) and a series of posters. By combining writing workshops with photography sessions, the residency highlighted the community’s cultural heritage and social identity, resulting in a collective visual record that strengthens local visibility and appreciation.

Fanzine: A Collective Identity

The artistic zine was developed as a shared record of the residency, printed and distributed within the Bétulas community and across Famalicão. By celebrating the participants’ creative voices, this publication serves as a tangible bridge between local narratives and the wider public, highlighting the enduring strength of community identity.

Handwritten Narratives

Workshops centered on manual writing—using markers and Chinese ink—invited participants to explore their creative expression. Selected words and reflections from these sessions were later integrated into the community zine, forming the core of the project’s visual and literary illustrations.

Reflections of Belonging: Community Posters

Photographs of the Bétulas residents were transformed into posters and displayed throughout the neighborhood, creating a visual dialogue within their own territory. The Approach

Before approaching, consider:

My perspective is my rarest resource.
Rigor driven by intent and elegance — never a trend.
A commitment to singularity, not volume.
Time is limited. High-impact projects only.
